Traditionally Kongu Community has been an agrarian community. It has been a constant evolution of our community; from agriculture to modern technological era. In this ever changing world, nothing remains constant. People change, geographies change, and cultures gets adapted/changed. Today the world has shrunk so small that, it is now called a Global Village which has brought down the barriers on distance. Kongu Vellala Gounder’s are also not an exception to this change; even our community has capitalized in this global economics and has spread its wings everywhere.
People migrated to other parts of the country/world from the traditional Kongunadu region seeking better occupation/business/career opportunities; which shows the adaptability, flexibility and versatility of our community. In spite of this wide spread of Kongu’s around the globe, the unique trait that binds all of us is the “Pride” of being a Kongu Vellala Gounder. Moreover Kongu’s have been known for their hospitality, which makes our community a highly civilized community amongst the peers.
Though these migrations have brought in lot of prosperity amongst Kongu’s, it has left us in the ignorance on the legacy, heritage and culture of our community. A lot of our community youth these days do not have an idea about the tradition of our community. Even though our community and youth to large extent have acquired a lot of advanced knowledge in almost all the fields, there are certain value systems and culture which are unique to us. These value systems formed the foundations on which our community was evolved and practiced. This ignorance can be attributed to the lack of exposure and knowledge transfer from the elder’s of our community.
Considering all these facts, a group of youth decided to form a network, which will bring in all the kongu’s around the globe together on a common platform. They also wanted the group to be a guide and torch bearer for the community. They wanted to exploit the vast capabilities that networking and technology had to offer to reach to the millions of Kongu’s around the world. Internet was the only choice to reach to the vast global audience, which can be omni present everywhere.
Thus KonguVellalaGounder@YahooGroups.Com was formed on 13-Nov-2002 with the above mentioned intention. It was a really a humble start for the group, which was to witness a lot of activities later. Now our group is in the verge of celebrating its 5th anniversary. Years passed, members got added and slowly but steadily lot of thoughts were exchanged, there were battle of words, constructive ideas were generated and socially beneficial activities were performed, but all these were carried out without losing essence of fun and on foundation of relationship.
For the very first time in its history members of our group met for a get-together at Kongu Nanbargal Sangam, Chennai on 07-Jan-2007. This triggered of a successful offline relationship among the members and also the subsequent get-togethers in Coimbatore and Chennai which were hugely successful. We have also done a couple of socially relevant activities in association with Kongu Nanbargal Sangam, Chennai.
At one stage, we were all feeling that being on yahoo; we are restricting ourselves to the users of yahoo and subscribers to the group. It was not addressing the goals that we had set out to reach to millions of Kongu’s. Only after the Coimbatore get-together we decided to go on our own to launch an official website for our community. Thus this website was launched and you are here today reading this section which has helped us to reach to one of Kongu Vellala Gounder in this world.
www.konguvellalar.in is a technology initiative of a group of Kongu to unite all the kongu’s all around the globe. As we all know, networking and knowledge are POWER in today’s geo economic political situation, since you have come here a long way, let us all unite.

Lets try to do our best to the community, it can be in one or more ways than mentioned here Viz. spread awareness among the youth of our community about the best practices of our community, provide educational assistance to the poorer section of our community, career guidance, matrimonial assistance to the community, service to the society, protection to environment at large.

Please try to publish original version of Magala vzhalthu in web site. This can be collected from local Navithan but each one is giving differnt form. Hope, this original version has been published in early kongu vellalar history book and this is not available at present. Another important point, i wish to bring to your notice that the theory of Aryan and Dravidan is totally fabricated and if you belive the theory it is must to believe that Konguvellars are Aryans as the kootam system is well established in north Indian communities than South. In south, as far as I know is followed only in Kallar community.

Sir, I appreciate you all for launching this website and assorted services. A family tree software may be made available so that our lineage can be traced and better social networking will be possible. As our people are diverting from agricultural to other business like textile, knitting and software, there develops a deep divide, which destroys our social fabric. Some remedy has to be found to avoid this malady so as to make our community better.

came to know that the karumathampatti conference was a grandddddd success.
Many have aapreciated the way it was planned ,organisd and scruitnized…
I was eagerly watching for some clippings in the media ,but unfortunately it was not there and i guess it should be due to the fear of the politicians to hide over growth..
Also in the conference ,we could feel the unity and caring for each by passing on the food items water etc..people added…

Politics in Kongunadu today:
Kongunadu has nearly 70 assembly constituencies out of the total 234. This region has been economically strong but politically vwry weak because disunity among the majority Gounders.Today Gounders who are estimated to be the single largest caste in Tamilnadu of about 70-80 lakhs are represented only in 23/65 assembly constituencies. This is radically opposite to the 30/30 and 4 important ministers in the Rajaji berth. (The only caste given 4 ministers by the great Rajaji , not even Brahmins as he used to say Gounders are very honest). There are only two ministers now with dummy portfolios. Thevars have 30/38 MLAs and 4 ministers with strategic portfolios, Vanniars have 50/60 MLAs with 3 strategic ministeries in their respective areas. Central MP position is even bad 5/11 constituencies and no central ministers from the community while Vanniars and Thevars have 3 strategic ministers each. Gounders are thus all set to lose their status within the next 5 years.

Dear friends,
I noticied this site by chance and soon after I registered myself as a member, received a call from a Kogu friend, welcoming me to the group. Thanks Mr. Senthil Raj.
Years ago, I had attended some community functions at Chennai, organised by the ‘Kongu Nanbargal Sangam’. I am sure that the Sangam must be still active, doing real good to help our clan at the Metro. Any updates?
The site having provided us the connect, the members should provide inputs on the means and ways to reach the millions who do not have the wherewithall (in terms of education and infrastructure) to access the site. This could be a good launching pad for ideas and action plans that could help the community recover from many ills that it suffers from, on account of lack of education, application and confidence.
Thanks to those thoughtful Kongus who were instrumental in launching this site.

We have a history of many 100 years.. If we able to map a chain of our people - Linking son of and daughter of father, Grand father, Grand Grand Father …. We all will be of close relations.
I suggest a community structure to bond us together.That structure will link all our relations.

our community agriculturalist give more percent of agricultural products to our country. Now the agricultural lands are converted into real estates. so please cannot sell the lands for real estates.if this situation is continued then food scarcity occured in next generation. so motivate and helping to our agriculturalist gods.

Hi all, I’m very possessive on our caste. I feel tat, t ll b great if v run a university…. There r many Gounder institutions, but they r not solely run by them…. so t ll b better if v youths join hands and start a independent institution… v ve many dedicated teaching experts in our community , who ll render outstanding efforts to bring laurels and add credit to our KONGU. And i feel proud to say tat i’m an assis prof n engineering discipline…So surely i’ll extend my support at any time.. Hope tis opinion ll b taken into consideration….
