நான் நமது பெருமைமிகு இந்திய நாட்டின் ஒரு சராசரி குடிமகன்..
நான் ஒரு நாளைக்கு பதினெட்டு மணி நேரம் உழைப்பவன்.
‘உழைத்து வாழ வேண்டும்..
பிறர் உழைப்பில் வாழ்ந்திடாதே’
என்ற உயர்ந்த வரிகளுக்கு
சொந்தக்காரர்களில் நானும் ஒருவன்.
ஒரு நாள் என்னை பார்க்க ஒருவர் வந்தார்..
வந்தவர் என் நிலையைப் பார்த்து பரிதாபப்பட்டார்.
பின் கேட்டார்.
“எதற்காக இப்படி கஷ்டப்படுகிறாய்?”
ஆச்சர்யப்பட்ட நான் கேட்டேன்,
“கஷ்டப்படாமல் எப்படி வாழ்க்கை நடத்துவது?”
சிரித்துக்கொண்டே அவர் சொன்னார்,
“என்னை பார்..
உண்பேன்.. பின் உறங்கிடுவேன்..
போரடித்தால் வண்ண தொலைக்காட்சியில் படம் பார்ப்பேன்..
உழைக்காமல் இருப்பதால் வியாதிகள் வர வாய்ப்புண்டு.
அதனால் என்ன,
ராஜ மரியாதையுடன் உயர் சிகிச்சை பெற்றிடுவேன்..”
வியப்பின் எல்லைக்கே சென்ற நான் கேட்டேன்,
“உழைக்காமல் எப்படியப்பா இதெல்லாம் முடியும்?”
என்னை ஏளனமாகப் பார்த்த அவர் சொன்னார்,
“தம்பி, நான் தங்கத் தமிழ் நாட்டின் குடிமகன்.
என் நாட்டில் அரிசி ஒரு ரூபாய் மட்டும் தான்.
சமைப்பதற்கு கேஸும் அடுப்பும் இலவசம்.
பொழுதுப்போக்க மின்சாரத்துடன்
வண்ணத் தொலைக்காட்சி பெட்டிகள் இலவசம்.
நோய் வந்தால் மருத்துவமனை செல்ல ஆம்புலன்ஸ் இலவசம்.
மருத்துவமனையிலோ உயர்சிகிச்சை இலவசம்.
இதற்கு பிறகும் நான் உழைக்க வேண்டும்?”
அதிர்ந்துப் போன நான் கேட்டேன்,
“அப்படி என்றால் உன் எதிர் கால சந்ததியின் நிலைமை என்ன?”
அவரோ பலமாக சிரித்தார்.
“மனைவி பிள்ளை பெற்றால் சிகிச்சையுடன்
ரூபாய் 5000 இலவசம்.
குழந்தைக்கு சத்துணவு இலவசம்.
பள்ளிக்கு சென்றால்
படிப்பு இலவசம், சீருடை இலவசம்,
பாடப் புத்தகம் இலவசம்,
பள்ளிக்கு செல்ல பஸ் பாஸ் இலவசம்,
சைக்கிள் இலவசம்,
பள்ளிக்கு சென்று விட்டால்
முட்டையுடன் மதிய உணவு இலவசம்.
படித்து முடித்து விட்டு வேலை கிடைக்கும்வரை
